Costumes are not required, but we're hoping lots of guests will add to the fun by wearing pioneer
attire. Some have reported they're planning to come as their favorite Western legends. But a
long skirt and flour-sacking apron would do it for the ladies. A gentleman would need only high-
water pants and an ax resting jauntily on his shoulder. Kids, well, there are those who admit to
having gone buck-naked through the Pend Oreille woods in their youth, but bare feet and rope
belts would probably serve. Beyond that, let's just see how creative we are. Reserve your
place at telephone or e-mail below.
A flora scavenger hunt has been suggested-bring your plant life identification books. The
field is lumpy, which will add considerably to the challenge of croquet, horseshoes, bocce-bring
your equipment. Fire danger permitting, we'll have a campfire for cooking-bring pie irons and
your favorite campfire foods. The creek is a perfect accompaniment for music-bring your
instruments. We've got a bunch of old-time toys--bring your kids. And for a real pioneer
experience, we mean to have a bucket brigade to douse the fire-bring your buckets.
There's a field available for baseball, badminton, croquet, bocce, so bring equipment here, too.
Tables will be set aside for poring over topographic and homestead maps. And tables for
scrapbooks-old ones, new ones, family history, pets, vacations, gardens. Let us see what you've
put in your scrapbook. And the fun of potluck-what if everyone brings desserts? Mm-mm
good. We'll provide beverages.
